Chassis Update 05/10

Chassis Progress 12/09

Since the last update, the chassis has been completed, with only small mounts left to be added. The finished chassis came together just after Christmas, then suspension and engine mounts were added. The complete frame weighed in at 30kg, with mounts, an decrease of 8kg over last year.
The process of welding the chassis continued, with a number of different jigs being used:

With the frame complete, the suspension mounts had to be added. These were set at angles specified by the suspension team and welded to the frame.

And then engine mounts.

The next stage for us is to paint the chassis once the final mounting points are on, and then assemble the car

Suspension - May 09
Total progress to date includes all component and system designs with a full CAD model assembly with the chassis.

Since the arrival of the new website the suspension system has seen good manufacturing and assembly progress.
During May specific tasks that are being carried out include the manufacture of: mounting brackets, shims, upright brake calliper mounts, push rod system and stabiliser arms.

Wishbone manufacture was completed in April with the final task of staking the outboard spherical bearings completed. This has allowed wishbone assembly of the front of the car with the rear waiting on the completion of rear mounts welding. The front assembly with uprights is an important step in overall car progress as this now allows the steering system to be finalised and manufacture commence.

The next few weeks will see the rear assembly of wishbones and uprights completed as well as revising for final exams! So the team expects a repeat of many late nights similar to the coursework deadlines duration, which we are all very highly excited about!
